ANNUAL REPORT

It is that time of year again!  It would be appreciated if all reports could be in the church office before January 14th.  This will give me time to put the report together, track down the missing bits and have the report ready for distribution on Sunday, February 1st.  The Parkdale Annual Meeting will be held following the service on Sunday, February 15th.

WHITE GIFT SUNDAY

White Gift Sunday is on January 4, 2009.  As we again celebrate the visit of the Wise Men, our gifts will be used to bring hope and tangible assistance to the single mothers and children at the Bethany Hope Centre, on Wellington Street.  Toys and books appropriate for age five and younger, new or used baby clothes, and hats, mitts or scarves for moms or tots would be especially welcome.  You may also make a financial donation through the church.

CARING KITCHENS

We are in need of items to keep our freezer stocked for needs as they arise.  Small casseroles, soups, desserts and muffins are welcome.  It would be helpful to list the ingredients for the items.  There is a small freezer inside the Tape Hall Kitchen where you can place your items.  If you have any questions about your contributions please speak with Barbara Faught.

Thank you from the Pastoral Care Team.

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

COMMEMORATIVE GOSPEL SERVICE

January 18, 2009 – 10:30 am

It is hard to believe that our Martin Luther King Jr. service will mark its ten year anniversary here at Parkdale United.  In celebration of this, our very special guest preacher will be Nontombi Naomi Tutu. Yes, that is right, the third daughter of Nobel Prize Winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his wife Nomalizo.  Ms. Tutu was born in Krugersdorp, South Africa and has lived in a number of African countries, the UK and is presently living in Nashville, Tennessee.  She has served as a development consultant in West Africa and has taught at a number of American Universities.  She is a human rights activist and an advocate for gender and racial justice.  She is a much sought after speaker in Churches, Universities and Conferences.  We feel privileged to have her come to Parkdale and Ottawa.  Following the worship and light refreshments, Ms. Tutu will be taking questions town hall meeting style in the Memorial Hall.

We will also be blessed once again by the Imani Gospel Singers directed by Marcia Bailey.  Spread the word and come early.

CONFIRMATION/AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

Dr. Bailey, with the help of our congregational leaders, will be offering a confirmation/affirmation of faith preparation process starting in January.  It is a very important decision to publicly affirm one's faith in God and to make a commitment to live that out in a life of discipleship in relation to a congregation, in this case Parkdale.  For further information please contact Dr. Bailey.

We give thanks for the year that has passed with its mixture of sorrow and joy.  The Love that came to Bethlehem has touched the world in many different ways.  May that same Love be with you now to fill your heart and home and bring joy to you throughout this wonderful time of the year.

A very Merry Christmas to you all!  We look forward to working with you in the New Year.
